One Number, A Whole Story: Getting to Know Our Producers

At the Village Larder, we want to make it easier to know where your food comes from and the people behind it. That's why every producer we feature is given their own unique producer number.

Think of it as a little thread that connects everything together — from the product in your hand to the person who made it and the place it came from. So keep an eye out for these numbers.

How our producer numbers work

Every producer has a number, and wherever you see that number around The Village Larder, it links back to the same producer.

Take our Edenfield eggs, for example. They're Producer Number 1. You'll find this number repeated in several places:

  • On the product label — so you can identify the producer while browsing the shelves.

  • On our Meet the Makers Tree — where the number connects the product to a photograph of the person or people behind it.

  • On our producer map — helping you see where the producer is based and how close they are to Edenfield.

  • On our blogs — where you can discover more about the people, their practices and the story behind their products.

  • Across other Village Larder materials — keeping that connection consistent wherever you encounter their produce.

Bringing the pieces together

We want these numbers to do more than help us organise a shop, becuase they don't help at all(!) They're a simple way to bring the whole story together.

You might spot a product on the shelf, notice its producer number, find the matching photograph on the Meet the Maker Tree and then explore the map to see where it comes from. From there, you can delve deeper into the producer's story and learn a little more about what goes into bringing that product to you.

It's a small detail, but it opens the door to a much bigger picture.

How local is local?

Our producer numbers also help us share more about the distances our products travel to reach Edenfield. By connecting each producer to their location on the map, we can show what's grown, made, baked or reared nearby — as well as being open about the products that come from further afield.

Not everything can be produced on our doorstep, and we don't pretend otherwise. What matters is helping you understand where things come from, giving credit to the people behind them and making that information easier to find.

A little more connection with every purchase

The next time you're browsing The Village Larder, look out for the producer numbers. Each one is an invitation to find out more.
